3. Insidious: Out of the Further

As thoroughly played out as the Insidious franchise seems at this point, credit where it's due - the upcoming sixth film, Insidious: Out of the Further, at least seems to be swinging for the fences.

The big, juicy hook this time around is that the dark astral realm known as The Further is now beginning to leak into our own reality, the bonkers potential of which speaks for itself.

And in honesty, the trailer makes it look like the sort of fun cinematic theme park ride Insidious should've always been - visually inventive and utterly campy.

There are a few other considerations here, too - the Lambert family are nowhere to be seen, which is just as well as their story is so thoroughly played out, and franchise protagonist Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) is back, which is always a cause for celebration.

Basically, don't be shocked if Insidious: Out of the Further turns out to be the best Insidious movie since the first, because it's certainly the most promising sequel to date on paper.
