20 Recent Box Office Bombs EVERYONE Saw Coming

11. Predator: Badlands

Predator: Badlands is one of the better-received entries in the Predator franchise, and yet it seemed destined to underperform at the box office for basically one reason - its massive budget.

With a reported $105 million price tag, it was by far the most expensive film in the series, meaning it needed to gross north of $250 million to be considered a theatrical success.

But even with passionately positive reviews and an accessible PG-13 rating, Badlands topped out at just $185 million, leaving it far short of profitability.

In addition to the budget, though, there were other clear issues - namely the previous film, Prey, foregoing a theatrical release and the franchise simply failing to grow itself a new audience over the decades.

It pretty much seems like the people who dug Predator 20 or 30 years ago are still turning up for it but younger viewers just aren't as interested.

At least Badlands has proven itself a massive, record-breaking hit on streaming, even if the series' future likely lies in more modest, mid-budget efforts like Prey.
