20 Recent Box Office Bombs EVERYONE Saw Coming

16. The Running Man

As talented as Edgar Wright is, his performance at the box office has been all over the place, with his only huge box office hit being 2017's Baby Driver, which grossed an impressive $227 million on a budget of just $34 million.

It certainly seemed like a risk to have him direct a $110 million adaptation of Stephen King's dystopian novel The Running Man, then, especially with the previous Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring film remaining a firmly beloved cult classic.

The generic marketing didn't do the film much good, and when lukewarm reviews dubbed it Wright's worst film to date, its fate was basically sealed.

To be clear, The Running Man needed to gross around $275 million to be a sure-fire hit for Paramount, and it ended up settling at a brutal $68.6 million.

Between this and Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World flopping back in 2010, it seems unlikely he'll get handed a blockbuster budget again any time soon.
