If I Had Legs I'd Kick You was one of 2025's most buzzed-about movies - a magnificently bold black comedy starring Rose Byrne as a mother who spirals into a mental breakdown while caring for her daughter with a feeding disorder.

This nightmarish, stylistically adventurous film dares to tackle one of society's most taboo subjects - resentful parents - while giving Byrne the floor to deliver a mesmerising, career-best performance which rightly landed her a Best Actress Oscar nomination.

Yet even with the near-universal critical acclaim and enormous awards hype, the movie topped out at just $1.7 million worldwide, and while its budget hasn't ever been publicly confirmed, it clearly wasn't low enough to make that figure good news.

Then again, this was surely a passion prestige play for A24, who were likely acutely aware that a film with subject matter this confronting to the average moviegoer wouldn't make much bank at all.
