20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Might Surprise You
10. Orphans
It's certainly easy to scoff at the notion of a third film in the Orphan franchise, considering that Isabelle Fuhrman's protagonist Esther died in the original 2009 film.
Plus, with Esther being a hormone-afflicted adult woman who poses as a child, it simply becomes a trickier role for the now-adult Furhman to convincingly play with each passing year.
The previous prequel, Orphan: First Kill, was admittedly already pushing it, with its reliance on stand-ins and the awkward need to constantly shoot around Fuhrman's actual stature.
But the film was nevertheless a pleasantly surprising follow-up for the most part, largely thanks to a genuinely unexpected mid-film twist.
And with First Kill's director William Brent Bell and writer David Coggeshall re-teaming for this threequel, perhaps they just might pull it off again.
From what little we know about the premise so far, it seems that Orphans will transition Esther into full-on anti-hero territory, as she discovers that the patriarch of her new family is actually a sadist whose "children" are kidnap victims.
With Bell and Coggeshall involved, expect them to do some deeply twisted and unexpected things with this gonzo premise.
