20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Might Surprise You

11. Saw XI

When Saw X became the best-reviewed film in the franchise and blew up the box office, it was little surprise that Saw XI was swiftly announced.

But a whole lot has changed since then.

Development of the next Saw stalled due to disagreements between producers, and was only resolved when Blumhouse acquired a stake in the franchise last summer.

Saw XI was then re-announced with original co-creator James Wan being brought aboard to help reinvent the franchise moving forward.

So while Saw XI was originally expected to be a direct continuation of Saw X - which itself acts as an "interquel" between the first two films - that's looking decidedly less likely now.

Wan has expressed a desire to return to the roots of the original Saw and make the franchise "scary" again, which suggests that Saw XI may be a soft reboot of-sorts.

The big question mark, naturally, is whether franchise icon Tobin Bell will be involved, and given that he turns 84 years of age this year, time is surely of the essence.

Whether Bell is in it or not, it seems probable that Saw XI takes quite a different form from the more recent Saw films, and hopefully it'll also find a path forward to exist beyond the legacy of Bell's John Kramer.
