25 Best Anime Supervillains Of All Time
20. Sosuke Aizen - Bleach
Sosuke Aizen’s story of evolution in Bleach is similar to that of the archangel Gabriel. Once a Shinigami and member of the Soul Society, he one day sought the King of Souls’ power for himself via a form of mutiny and becomes one of the main antagonists after a teensy, tiny imprisonment.
Part of Aizen’s great appeal as a villain is his lack of allegiance; or we should say his only allegiance is to himself. In an anime sorted by factions and good vs. evil, Aizen stands alone and convinces the viewer that he’s convicted enough in his beliefs to see them realised regardless.
Not to mention the fact we see him do some extremely cool and terrifying things, like planning a major coup 100 years in advance, besting some of the best warriors in the series and essentially saving the day from Yhwach when all was said and done.
In another life, we might have been best friends; if only you weren’t evil.
