If someone had told us back when Chamber Of Secrets came out that one day we would be shedding a tear when Dobby died, few would have believed it. But what began as little more than the Jar-Jar Binks of the Harry Potter universe really developed into such a brave, selfless, and perpetually optimistic character that his death was appalling. He was an utterly unique house elf, who possessed an individuality and sense of self-worth, all while remaining completely loyal to his friends. When Dobby bursts into the Malfoy Manor to save the day, audiences felt like cheering. But alas, our joy was short-lived. As was Dobby, as it turns out. And as if is wasn't emotional enough, Harry provides a truly touching burial service, carving the headstone himself without using magic. Good night, sweet prince. You were too precious for this world.
