R2-D2 may only communicate in beeps, boops, and the occasionally stressed scream, but it's clear for all to see that he's Star Wars' best droid.

Portrayed by the late Kenny Baker from Episodes IV-VII, R2 has been in every Star Wars film to date, with him and 3PO the only two characters to do so. He's sassy, intuitive, and just about the loyalist astromech in the galaxy, having served under all generations of Skywalker, save for the last.

Simply put, there isn't a droid that's as loved or as iconic as R2-D2. Sure, he's just one half of a comedy act, but where 3PO intentionally grates on the audience, there's nothing but love for R2.
