8. Chewbacca
Chewbacca is the best Wookie in the galaxy, and as one of the few remaining Original Trilogy characters, one of Star Wars' most important.
Appearing first in A New Hope as Han Solo's loyal (and angry) companion, Chewie instantly illustrated the series' ability to transport viewers to a whole other galaxy, with 7 foot 3 inch actor Peter Mayhew bringing the character to life in a way no one else really could.
No matter the film, Chewie looks, walks and talks like an alien, and even though Star Wars fans have never heard him 'speak' in a traditional sense, everyone knows what each roar and groan means.
He's a part of the Star Wars family, and out of all the various supporting characters in the Star Wars canon, it's obvious that Chewbacca is among the most adored.
