Finnish body horror Hatching centers around a young gymnast, Tinja (Siiri Solalinna), who stumbles across a strange egg in the woods behind her home, and consequently brings the egg home to nurture. But once the egg hatches, things take quite the unsettling turn indeed.

At once a trenchant satire of contemporary family dynamics and a gnarly, gooey horror boasting incredible practical makeup effects by Oscar-nominated effects artist Conor O'Sullivan, Hatching is an enigmatic ride that skillfully performs a delicate tonal tightrope walk.

By turns funny, disturbing, and sad, Hanna Bergholm's film is a contemporary fairy-tale which explores typical coming-of-age tropes through a totally unique and very bloody lens.
