7. Under The Skin

Jonathan Glazer's 2013 film Under The Skin is a movie that's both unconventional and uncomfortable. The film centres on Scarlett Johansson's character, an alien creature who takes the form of a human, before seducing and killing various man across Scotland.

It sounds very straight forward, but as the title suggests, there's much more going on in the film than you might expect. Glazer's story unfolds in a rather vague manner; cryptic enough to be open to interpretation yet clear enough that the transpiring events are easy to follow and completely engaging.

With a multitude of themes and symbolism to discuss, the movie explores an outsider's perspective of humanity and what exactly it means to be human. There's so much to unpack here that it's an eminently re-watchable movie with a tremendously crafted atmosphere to suck you right back in every time you do so.

While this is isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, if you're a fan of David Lynch or Stanley Kubrick chances are you'll find this an interesting watch.
