8 Humorous Horror Movies Only A Child Could Fear

2. Child's Play (1988)

Killer dolls used to freak me out when I was a kid. The idea that something so empty and safe could come to life and kill you was terrifying. This was exacerbated by the fact that we had a My Buddy doll in our house, and of course, it just so happened to look remarkably similar to Chucky, antagonist of the Child€™s Play series. Child€™s Play was the definitive killer doll series of the 80€™s and 90€™s, about serial killer Charles Lee Ray€™s (Brad Dourif) attempt to stave off death by placing his soul into a Good Guy doll, and his further attempt to escape. To a kid, this movie was nightmare-inducing, as such a scenario is deathly scary, taking something all kids are familiar with and making it life threatening. As an adult, however, it is an incredibly schlocky movie based on a, frankly, stupid concept. The acting is mediocre, plot moronic, and the film as a whole is just plain poorly done. Any potential is wasted right at from the start with an opening scene that reveals all its secrets, leaving no mystery and draining any tension from the following scenes. Most of all, the movie is downright hilarious, with a ginger doll spouting foul language and voodoo spells, making for a pretty non-scary monster. While a child may be afraid, an adult can only watch the film and laugh at how unsubtle and illogical it is. The film is simply too in your face, resulting in a movie that only a child could fear.
