Every horror fan loves The Evil Dead, its almost a prerequisite. The horror slapstick series consists of three films and stars Bruce Campbell as Ash, who, while taking a little vacation with his friends in a small cabin in the woods (always a bad idea), discovers the Book of the Dead and accidently unleashes demons. A mixture of laughs and screams proceed as the demons possess and decimate his friends one by one. You would never fault a child for getting nightmares from The Evil Dead. While the film is full of slapstick and a wicked sense of humor, it is also a chilling and atmospheric horror film based on an age old premise of being trapped in an isolated environment against an unknowable foe. Despite being made on the cheap, the makeup, special effects, and camera work are all top-notch. There is no doubt that some of the stuff that happens in The Evil Dead is much to extreme for the eyes of children, and like many of the other horror-comedy entries on this list, the humor will go unnoticed compared to the horror, making The Evil Dead the stuff nightmares are made of.
