8 Movies You Wrongly Thought Were Sequels

1. Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights

Lionsgate Films

The second anyone ever suggested making another Dirty Dancing movie almost 20 years after the original should have been the exact same moment the conversation should have been killed dead. It's one of those films so protected by nostalgia (and actually being good on top of that) that it ought to have been given protected status years ago.

Sadly, that wasn't the case as the studio decided to bring out a belated follow-up in 2004, starring Romola Garai and Diego Luna as the new generation of star-crossed dance lovers, who find love in Cuba rather than at Kellermans. It was set in 1958 - a full 5 years before the original, for some reason - and it essentially just steals the plot.

Even worse, Patrick Swayze actually turned up for a cameo as a dance teacher (unnamed), confusing the timeline entirely and basically ensuring that it's impossible to consider it a sequel, despite the title.
