8 Plot Discrepancies In The X-Men Films

2. Impossible Character Aging

Men of the world could be forgiven for failing to notice the inexplicable inclusions of Moira MacTaggart (Rose Byrne) and Emma Frost (January Jones) in X-Men: First Class, given the states of undress in which they appear on several occasions. MacTaggart appears in the 1962-set prequel as an American CIA operative that becomes involved with Charles Xavier and his growing group of X-Men. Byrne was 31 when the film was released and her character is presumably around the same age, which means that the appearance of a 37 year-old Olivia Williams as a British version of the character in X-Men: The Last Stand is somewhat astounding, given that film€™s contemporary setting. This could possibly be remedied by having Byrne€™s MacTaggart give birth to a daughter with the same name at some point, though. Frost, meanwhile, appears as a fully-grown woman in X-Men: First Class, though she is depicted as a mere child in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which ostensibly takes place a few years later. Like the aforementioned Bolivar Trask, however, the Origins version of the character is only referred to in the credits as €˜Emma€™ and it could be explained that the two are different characters, though the fact that both possess identical mutant powers complicates that solution somewhat.
