8 Reasons Mission Impossible Is Better Than James Bond

7. Mission Impossible Doesn't Conform To The Reboot Mould

The release of Batman Begins in 2005 reshaped the approach to blockbuster movies. Batman Begins was followed by a (so far) decade-long wave of €œgritty€ reboots€” Star Trek, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Amazing Spider-Man, Man of Steel, Dredd, Snow White and the Huntsman, Evil Dead, Dracula Untold, Fantastic Four, and of course Casino Royale starring Daniel Craig as the newly-minted double-O. Like Batman Begins, Casino Royale functions as an origin story of the James Bond persona, though a pretty uneven one. Taking another cue from Nolan€™s Batman, the Bond team attempted a sustained narrative dealing with Vesper Lynd and Mr. White between Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. It€™s safe to say that story fizzled out. Finally, Skyfall was explicitly influenced by The Dark Knight€™s tricky villain-driven plot structure. Meanwhile, it seems that Mission:Impossible is, and always has been, cool doing its own thing. If anything, the franchise has lightened up over time, which is a breath of fresh air.
