6. Mission Impossible Has Better Supporting Characters
The Bond movies have lately made strides in terms of Bonds support team, with Skyfall throwing Moneypenny and Q into the mix. And of course, Dame Judi Denchs M was a series highlight for almost twenty years. But in typical reboot fashion, the first two Craig films hesitated to include iconic Bond allies. Mission:Impossible, on the other hand, benefitted from a lack of expectations related to the 1960s-70s TV show, which allowed the film series to introduce and evolve its own cast of characters. Ving Rhames as hacker Luther Stickell, a man who makes any hat look cool, has been there since the first movie. With M:I 3 we were introduced to technician Benji Dunn, played by Simon Pegg. Benji has grown over three films from a purveyor of technobabble and comic relief to a still-funny field agent in his own right. Jeremy Renners buttoned-down Brandt is a great foil to the rebellious Ethan Hunt. And in Rogue Nation, Rebecca Ferguson (reportedly a frontrunner for Marvel Studios Captain Marvel) as Ilsa Faust is the most magnetic take on the femme fatale in a long while.
