Every second of footage we've seen so far smacks of popcorn-fulled, action-blockbuster, the kind of thing you'd expect from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As much as we love the Marvel films, The Dark Tower should have been built at the other end of the tonal spectrum to them.

They should be rich in Spaghetti Western overtones, weirdness and surrealism, with an undercurrent of vintage Stephen King horror.

Yet the trailers have painted a black and white picture of good versus evil, superhero against super villain - bog standard PG-13 fodder, basically.

This isn't the metaphysical Western-fantasy-horror hybrid we know and love.
