But where exactly is Mr Skywalker? Mark Hamill has been papped a couple of times since the film entered production boasting a pretty gnarly beard, and a codename spotted on a call sheet from the film's set, OW, has been said to stand for "Old Wizard". Which is both the look and the title previously owned by Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original Star Wars, when he was a wizened old Jedi in hiding, exiled to Tatooine and chilling in a mud hut, scaring off Tusken Raiders and sending snarky letters to his mates. Or, wait, maybe that last one was Alec Guinness rather than Obi-Wan. Anyway, all that had people thinking Luke had also become a recluse after Return Of The Jedi. Because when you think about it for more than, like, five seconds, that doesn't make a lick of sense. Why would Luke go into hiding? At the end of the last film he was an intergalactic hero who had slain the ultimate evil in the galaxy and freed everyone from the tyranny of the Empire. People on every planet were celebrating. He was hanging out with singing Ewoks and ghosts of his dead family and friends. How could that possibly go wrong? We'll tell you: because he hasn't gone into hiding. He's been imprisoned. Yep. That definitely seems more plausible, right? Clearly the Empire won't have been the only bad guys in the galaxy far, far away, since you couldn't really have another trilogy without villains. So whoever the antagonists are (and we'll get to that soon enough, since we have a pretty good idea), it's Luke that they were after. Presumably because after that last big victory, he's #1 hero in the galaxy and thus the #1 target for bad dudes. So Luke's in captivity, that's why he has the sweet beard, and that's why everyone has a job tracking him down to give him his hand and 'sabre back.
