2. Die Hard Started Life As A Sequel To Commando

Commando is one of Schwarzenegger’s most delightful movies, where his ex-soldier has to shoot, punch and one-liner his way through some baddies to rescue his daughter. Sadly the film never received a sequel, but for the last two decades, a rumour has spread that an unused script for Commando 2 became Die Hard.

Not so, says screenwriter Steven De Souza, who wrote Commando, Die Hard and the totally-not Die Hard Commando 2 script. While his screenplay would have seen Arnie fighting bad guys in a building, it had nothing to do with Die Hard, which was based on a book called Nothing Lasts Forever.

Both films were developed around the same time; Arnie eventually declined Commando 2 and Die Hard was greenlit shortly afterwards, so along the way somebody must have assumed the Commando 2 script was recycled, which isn’t the case.

Of course, it is a real shame the Commando sequel didn’t happen since it contained an all time great Arnie one-liner, where he throws a baddie into helicopter blades and quips “He went to pieces!”
