2. Martin Sheen - Apocalypse Now

Apocalypse Now's production came with a number of notorious stories, including a typhoon wrecking the set, an out of control schedule and budget and Marlon Brando's behaviour.

It also has one of the most stunningly intense scenes of any film, with star Martin Sheen perfectly capturing a vision of a tortured, addicted soul. His Captain Willard is left in his hotel room alone and goes stir-crazy, getting drunk and falling about the place.

Allegedly Sheen actually got drunk to film the scene and goaded by Francs Ford Coppola (who picked at what he perceived to be vanity to break him) and as a result legitimately cut his hand. So it's his blood that made it into the final film.
