AFI's Top Ten of 2007 gets KNOCKED UP!

By Matt Holmes /

last year I posted about the AFI's list when they shockingly picked THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, DREAMGIRLS and HAPPY FEET, and as it's a slow news day (as it probably was then too)... I thought I would do the same again. This year they seem to have had their head screwed on a bit tighter (remember, it's the AFI... so only American films are chosen)... "Before the Devil Knows You€™re Dead" "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" "Into the Wild" "Juno" "Knocked Up" "Michael Clayton" "No Country for Old Men" "Ratatouille" "The Savages" "There Will Be Blood" Only real surprise would be THE SAVAGES (where did that come from?) and the inclusion of KNOCKED UP. Now don't start hating me, I thought KNOCKED UP was great and should be the mould for the future of the rom-com, but really... in the top ten? Ahead of ZODIAC? Ahead of YUMA? Ahead of GANGSTER? Ahead of BOURNE? RATATOUILLE I loved but sadly I haven't seen the rest. To be fair to myself, I believe only INTO THE WILD and MICHAEL CLAYTON have actually opened here in the U.K. to date out of those I haven't seen, both of which looked 'middle of the road' and 'wait for DVD' material. JUNO really has turned into this year's LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE and it is likely to do well come awards nominations time. THERE WILL BE BLOOD and NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN look likely to be the two that will last the test of the time the longest. So don't tell me your best films of the year YET... only let me know what you think of the AFI's list and whether you think KNOCKED UP sticks out like a sore thumb? And what the fuck is THE SAVAGES again? source - variety
