WINNER: Hell or High Water

Sicario writer Taylor Sheridan delivered another singular masterwork with this magnificently well-calibrated script, crafting a unique crime thriller with a social conscience, well-drawn characters and a welcome dash of dark humour.

Full of memorable dialogue and a hilarious scene with the world's most cantankerous old waitress that's basically unforgettable, Sheridan continues to prove himself to be one of the most distinctive voices working today, a master of tone who for his part helped create one of the best westerns of the last decade.
