WINNER: The Handmaiden

Director Chan-wook Park's (Oldboy) erotic period crime caper wasn't even submitted by South Korea for Oscar eligibility, despite being a sumptuous, beautifully mounted film with more than a few clever stings in its tail.

Unsurprisingly, Park's usual f***ed up tendencies show up in abundance, which may be offputting to some, but for those who have stomached his previous films, they'll have no problem soaking in this deliriously entertaining romp that ended up on a high number of critical top 10 lists.
