7. He Helped To Sell An Unknown Property

Outside of comic book circles, very few people are aware of the character of Ant-Man. As such, using him in a movie is even more of a difficult sell than Iron Man was in 2008. In addition to Paul Rudd's appearance in the lead role, Edgar Wright was a huge draw for mainstream audiences unsure of whether it would be worth a trip to see a man who can change his size and control insects. Wright's decision to depart the project leaves Marvel with an even more difficult task on their hands. This year's Guardians of the Galaxy may well prove to be the litmus test for offbeat superhero flicks, but Ant-Man is certainly a gamble of a scale that Marvel hasn't attempted before. Without a director who can help generate hype amongst target audiences, the film could have a difficult time of things.
