5. Agent Phil Coulson
Previously...
"Killed" in The Avengers, Agent Phil Coulson became the great unifying factor in bringing the Avengers together as a unit against Loki and the Chitauri.
He was, of course, revived and charged with running what remains of SHIELD from the shadows without the knowledge of the Avengers, who needed to believe he's dead still, apparently.
Current Whereabouts
Still running SHIELD (via lots of small screen shenanigans that would never really be referenced in the MCU).
Why He Needs To Come Back
If Thanos wants to pull at the fabric keeping the Avengers together, he could do a lot worse than revealing the deception that their union was based on. He could easily use the Soul Stone to take control of the real Coulson to show the heroes that Nick Fury lied, which would be catastrophic for morale.
