Freed by Odin's death in Thor: Ragnarok, Thor's sister Hela made a play for Asgard and was only thwarted when Thor and Loki combined to unleash an even bigger evil in the shape of Surtur who destroyed Asgard entirely.
She might have got a few hits in herself, but it looked suspiciously like Hela went down with the ship.
Current Whereabouts
Very probably dead, with what's left of her floating around space on a meteorite.
Why She Needs To Come Back
Because she's the kind of character that Thanos would fall in love with, judging by his famed fetish for Death, and also because she's still the kind of huge deal who would boost his forces massively.
On top of that, she'd also be an excellent means of demotivating Thor, since he's literally JUST finished defeating her.
