The Concern: Part of Batmans appeal is the way in which he strikes fear into criminals without us ever having to actually see him beat guys into a pulp. His reputation does the work for him, meaning Batman branding criminals with his insignia and viciously chaining them up isnt necessary. Batman is dark and fearsome, but his savagery is largely implied. Actually seeing his violence in action has the potential to take away from his mystery and cause him to lose sympathy from the audience. Why Theres Still Hope: After so many different incarnations of the character, its almost a necessity that Batman be re-invented each time he appears on film. In this case, its quite possible that the Ben Affleck's Batman is simply more violent than were used to. Thats not to say that this more savage version of the character is necessarily a bad one. This could add another layer to Bruce Wayne, taking things farther than weve seen before, with a more fluid sense of morality. It could likewise speak to a much more evil Joker thats been opposing him, something which could play out over an extended period of time.
