The Concern: The political undertones of the film seem startlingly familiar. Thats because the idea of a government wanting to control a superhero was covered before in Iron Man 2. Though not explicity stated in the film, Superman walking into a courthouse surrounded by anti-alien protestors as Lex Luthor muses about how power cannot be innocent certainly recalls themes from that Marvel outing. This could be a good way to tie the larger-than-life narrative into a real-world setting, but, as Iron Man 2 proved, it doesnt always translate well to the finished product as a theme that people are interested in. Why Theres Still Hope: Iron Man 2 was very scattered, with the political subplot being only one of many. That film had a lot of problems, most of which stemmed from a lack of singular focus on a primary, resonant theme. With an appropriate amount of focus on the political side of things, however, it could make for a very engaging and unique story. Tying Batman V Superman into real world fears of the unknown could be a stroke of genius that ends up feeling very little like Iron Man 2.
