14. Saw X

Saw X kicked off with an opening trap which assured fans the series had regained the bite that was absent from the last few entries.

After John Kramer (Tobin Bell) receives his terminal cancer diagnosis, he observes a hospital orderly considering stealing a watch from an unconscious patient, only for Kramer to seemingly kidnap the orderly and place him in one of his traps.

The trap in question requires the orderly to move a dial to five positions, each one breaking one of his fingers horribly, and if he can't reach all five positions within a minute, he'll have both eyes sucked out by a vacuum contraption attached to his face.

And the guy doesn't get close to making it, resulting in both eyes being forcibly ripped from their sockets, before we cut back to the hospital and it's revealed that this was all actually just a figment of Kramer's imagination.

Ultimately the orderly decides not to steal the watch, at which point Kramer amusingly tells him, "Good choice."

Even though this trap isn't "real," it's still one of the gnarliest from any recent Saw movie and certainly got the movie off on the right foot.
