11. Sinners

Endings don't get much more satisfying than Sinners, which wraps up with Smoke (Michael B. Jordan) gunning down the KKK before expiring from his wounds.

But that's not quite the end of the movie - Ryan Coogler drops a lengthy epilogue sequence in the middle of the credits, set in 1992 where a now-elderly Sammie (Buddy Guy) is confronted by the unexpectedly still-alive Stack (also Michael B. Jordan) and Mary (Hailee Seinfeld) at a blues club.

They offer to turn Sammie and grant him immortality, but he declines, opting to instead play a song for them, after which Sammie and Stack both agree that, until the carnage of that fateful night, it was the best day of their lives.

This is an ending that lets the audience have their cake and eat it too, serving up an awesome action set-piece followed by a staggeringly poignant emotional payoff that ranks among the greatest mid-credits scenes in cinema history.
