20 Great Performances Wasted In Terrible Horror Movies

6. Matthew McConaghey - Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation is the absolutely risible fourth entry into the iconic slasher franchise, and one remembered for little but helping launch - a term we use dubiously here - the careers of RenĂ©e Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey.

McConaughey plays the film's primary antagonist, Vilmer Slaughter, and is clearly having the time of his life, hamming it up for the cheap seats yet impressively still bringing a genuine, visceral sense of menace to the character.

Yet McConaughey's volcanic performance is absolutely squandered here on a sequel that feels totally vibes-deficient compared to its predecessors.

For one, it severely trivialises franchise icon Leatherface, all while failing to make a persuasive argument that it's offering up a welcome new generation of anything.

As such it's little surprise that McConaughey is rather embarrassed of his part in the film nowadays, even if his performance is pretty much the only thing worth remembering.
