20 Great Performances Wasted In Terrible Horror Movies

5. Elena Kampouris - Children of the Corn (2020)

It's never a good sign when a film sits in post-production purgatory for the better part of three years - doubly so when it's yet another franchise reboot nobody was really asking for.

2020's Children of the Corn - or rather, 2023's Children of the Corn - was quite rightly raked over the coals by critics for its clumsy attempts to inject contemporary social commentary into Stephen King's classic text, its jarring tonal shifts, and that CGI monster at the end.

But amid it all, there's a genuinely fierce performance from Elena Kampouris as protagonist Boleyn Williams.

Though working with absolutely wretched material, she digs down deep and gives it her all regardless, enough that you can't help but wish she was working with an even slightly better script.

Ultimately, Kampouris does everything in her power to sell the drama of a film that, for all its ropey writing and slapdash filmmaking, is an impossible-to-take-seriously farce.
