And finally, this is easily one of the most intense, white-knuckle films to release this year, even though the action perhaps isn't as frequent as the trailers suggested.

Even when Gibson's just talking to someone, there's a near-constant feeling of anxiety and tension, aided hugely by his larger-than-life but achingly human performance no doubt.

As for the action? There's a pervasive feeling that either John or Lydia could actually end up dying before movie's end, which only enhances the already staggeringly violent nature of the action sequences. Terrific stuff.
