2. The Naked Gun 2

One of 2025's most pleasantly surprising films was The Naked Gun - a reboot of the legendary spoof franchise few were asking for, and yet delivered a steady stream of uproarious laughs alongside a perfectly po-faced Liam Neeson performance.

Between the strong critical acclaim and box office success, it seemed like The Naked Gun was back, and though Neeson initially claimed the film was a one-off, producer Erica Huggins soon enough announced that a sequel was being actively discussed.

We didn't hear much more on the matter until this year, when director Akiva Schaffer revealed that while he and his co-writers had gag ideas for The Naked Gun 2, it wasn't being worked on.

Schaffer cited uncertainty following the merger between distributor Paramount and Skydance Media mere days after the first film was released, and as we've seen time and time again, it sure pays to strike while the iron is hot where comedy sequels are concerned.

That's doubly true when your star is well into his 70s already.
