10 Movies That Just Got Cancelled
3. Sofia Coppola's New Period Drama
Last year, Kirsten Dunst revealed that she was set to reunite with director Sofia Coppola for a new biographical period drama, and though she didn't reveal the identity of the person she was going to play, she coyly stated the figure was "not someone who I'd consider famous."
The film was set to be the fourth major collaboration between the duo, following Dunst's starring roles in The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette, and The Beguiled, with shooting planned to begin later in the year.
But this past March, Coppola revealed that she ultimately decided not to move forward with the project, feeling that the film's tone wasn't right for the current cultural climate.
She called the material "too sad" for the present "dark times," while noting that she wanted to make something that offered "hope and beauty" to the world.
Hopefully we'll at least have our curiosity sated and find out who Dunst was going to play, but for now Coppola is looking for something a little sunnier to shoot.
