Though it has been suggested that Black Widow surprisingly aligns herself with Iron Man for Civil War, information released as part of EW's promotional tie-in has revealed that her status and allegiance are more complex than that. It actually seems that she's out for herself, and instead of aligning herself properly, she remains firmly in the middle:
You know, I think she understands where everyone is coming from. And none of it really matters to her, you know? Theres a bigger problem at hand and shes, I think, strangely, kind of the mediator. Which is not exactly how you would imagine her to be. But I think she really does see both sides of the coin and I think her strength is that shes not personally involved.
She's actually playing the odds without committing:
I think when you find her in Civil War, shes looking to strategize her position, putting herself in a place where she is able to let the powers that be fight it out or whatever amongst themselves. Shes always a little bit on the perimeter so she can have a better perspective of whats really going on.
So it would seem Widow thinks Iron Man will win - given that she apparently fights Hawkeye at one point. Rating: 9/10 Well, she said it herself, so it's best to consider Black Widow a wildcard whose allegiance is also in flux. Meanwhile it seems Scarlet Johansson has Kevin Feige's ear, despite his apparent reluctance to give her her own movie, and acts as his inside woman, as Anthony Mackie revealed to Collider:
"Thats all we do! Its funny, after a while you just become good friends and everybody bullies everybody on set. Everybody is nice to Scarlett , and we beat up on everybody else. Shell just kick your ass, or shell tell Kevin and youll get in trouble. So, youre nice to Scarlett, and you make fun of everybody else. I love it!"
