12. Lords of War

The 2005 Nicolas Cage-starring crime drama Lord of War certainly seemed like a one-off, especially as it wasn't successful at the box office, but in 2023 a follow-up, Lords of War, was said to be in the works.

Cage was in talks to return and Bill Skarsgård was circling the role of his screen son, but to many this absolutely seemed like a project that'd never actually get fully off the ground and go before cameras, especially with how much time has passed since the original.

After a few years of repeated remarks about the sequel being close to shooting, however, Lords of War was indeed shot at the tail-end of 2025, with original writer-director Andrew Niccol back in the saddle once again.

While it remains to be seen if a Lord of War sequel can justify its existence, in the very least we'll get to savour the deliriously inspired father-son pairing of Cage and Skarsgård.
