20 Announced Movie Sequels That Are FINALLY Happening
7. Viva La Madness
The terrific 2004 Daniel Craig-starring crime thriller Layer Cake ends with the apparent death of Craig's unnamed protagonist, so there sure didn't seem to be any runway for a sequel.
But fans were nevertheless keen for it, considering that J. J. Connolly's Layer Cake novel ended with our protagonist very much alive, allowing him to return in Connolly's 2011 follow-up novel Viva La Madness.
And indeed, in 2013 Connolly was said to be developing Viva La Madness, with Jason Statham taking over the lead role from Craig.
By 2015 it had been reimagined as a TV series, but for about a decade we heard nothing on the project, seemingly suggesting it had been quietly scrapped.
But in 2025 Viva La Madness was announced to have been reworked as a film, still starring Statham and now directed by his old pal Guy Ritchie.
Shooting wrapped earlier this year, and while the movie is said to largely function as a standalone follow-up to Layer Cake - somewhat sensibly considering both the time gap and casting change - many thought it'd never see the light of day in any form.
