Girls Trip was a surprise critical and commercial smash hit in 2017, grossing an astonishing $140.9 million on a mere $19 million budget, ensuring that a sequel was swiftly put on the table.

We didn't hear too much in the years that followed, even though the central cast were enthusiastic about the prospect, but by 2023 the script was being worked on with a possible setting in Africa.

In early 2024 Girls Trip 2 was confirmed with the original cast and director Malcolm D. Lee set to return, but again the project simply failed to sustain enough momentum actually start filming.

But in January, Tiffany Haddish - who was the undeniable breakout of the first film - revealed that she'd read the script, which she called laugh-out-loud funny, and that the current plan was to shoot at the end of the summer.

And so if that timeframe holds true, we can probably expect to see Girls Trip 2 in cinemas for summer 2027.
