20 Most Divisive Movie Scenes Ever

6. The Alien Spaceship - 10 Cloverfield Lane

It was a given that 10 Cloverfield Lane would probably feature alien monsters at some point, per its title and all, yet many were so thoroughly gripped by the contained character drama in the underground bunker that they simply didn't care when protagonist Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) made it above ground to face one.

As well-received as the film was, some felt that the final 10 minutes, where Michelle escapes the bunker and battles a biomechanical alien spacecraft, felt tacked-on in order to pay off the Cloverfield branding.

And considering that 10 Cloverfield Lane was originally a spec script called The Cellar with no links to Cloverfield whatsoever, it's little surprise that many felt this way.

Yet there are also a lot of Cloverfield fans who love how this closed-off, contained story ties into the wider Cloverfield universe, while delivering an ironic final twist that crazed survivalist Howard (John Goodman), for all his sins, was actually right all along.
