20 Most WTF Horror Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)
10. The Sadness
The early 2020s were a peak period for pandemic horror films for obvious reasons, and just when it seemed like we were all sick of 'em, along came The Sadness - an almost peerlessly unsettling Taiwanese body horror that refused to pull any punches.
What differentiates The Sadness from other similar films is that the central disease doesn't merely turn people into rabid cannibals - it forces the infected to act out their most violent and twisted impulses, all while retaining a measure of intelligence.
And so it's worth pointing out that The Sadness isn't for the squeamish - filmmaker Rob Jabbaz follows this setup down every twisted rabbit-hole you could imagine, resulting in some of the most unforgettably horrific carnage meted out on-screen this decade.
For a filmmaker to go there, and deliver such a profoundly unpleasant, upsetting experience that's also so exquisitely crafted, is a true rarity in the genre.
