20 Most WTF Horror Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)
5. We're All Going to the World's Fair
The most experimental horror film of the 2020s second only to Skinamarink, We're All Going to the World's Fair follows Casey (Anna Cobb), a lonely teenage girl who takes part in a viral Internet challenge, only to begin exhibiting increasingly alarming behaviour.
In their feature debut, Jane Schoenbrun shows a remarkable mastery of tone as they explore the darker side of the Internet and so succinctly capture the fleeting comfort it can bring to the lonely.
Few films so have aptly bottled the "creepypasta" atmosphere, but Schoenbrun's extremely low-fi, micro-budget approach serves the story perfectly, as does Anna Cobb's stellar central performance.
We're All Going to the World's Fair is a tough film to quantify because it's so experiential - if you ever found yourself trawling the web as a disaffected teenager and plunging down some ill-advised avenues, you'll surely find a whole lot to identify with here.
And if not, it just might seem too overpoweringly alien to you.
