20 Most WTF Horror Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)

4. Cuckoo

Even trying to describe what Cuckoo is isn't easy, the plot revolving around a teenage girl, Gretchen (Hunter Schafer), who moves to the German Alps to live with her father, only for the family to get pulled into a sinister scheme.

Filmmaker Tilman Singer has desperately little interest in spoon-feeding the audience, and so for long stretches of Cuckoo you may well not really know quite what the hell is happening.

And yet, the carousel of Very Strange Things combined with Singer's atmospheric work and strong performances from Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens ensure you'll likely remain transfixed all the way to the bonkers finale.

Just when you think you know where it's all going, the story veers off in another direction altogether, serving up some aggressive weirdness you surely never saw coming.

It won't be for everyone, but damn if Cuckoo didn't confirm Singer to be one of the most unique voices working in horror right now.
