20 Most WTF Horror Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)

14. Orphan: First Kill

Considering that 2009's Orphan concluded with the death of pint-sized antagonist Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman), few were expecting a follow-up, let alone a prequel released some 13 years after the fact.

This is especially tricky considering that Esther is a 33-year-old woman with a hormone disorder which causes her to resemble a child, and considering how much time has passed since the original, Isabelle Fuhrman is now an actual adult woman who can't so easily pass as an adult pretending to be a child.

And so, without the budget for digital de-ageing effects, the filmmakers had to get hilariously thrifty, using a combination of makeup, forced perspective, and body doubles to have Fuhrman play a 31-year-old Esther.

While there are absolutely some goofy moments where the effect just doesn't pass muster, Orphan: First Kill is a surprisingly effective prequel for the most part, and one which pulls off a seriously impressive bait-and-switch twist later on.

Perhaps the most WTF fact of all, however, is that another prequel that goes even further back in time, Orphans, has already been shot.
