20 Horror Movie Scenes They Were FORCED To Cut

17. Susan Survives - Deep Blue Sea

One of the more surprising moments in Deep Blue Sea - aside from Samuel L. Jackson's demise, of course - is the death of Susan McAlester (Saffron Burrows), the scientist responsible for genetically engineering the mako sharks which get loose and start munching their way through the ensemble cast.

In the finale, a guilt-riddled Susan uses herself as bait to lure the sharks away, cutting her hand and ultimately being devoured by the sharks before she can get to safety.

But this was actually a hasty reshoot added to the film. In the original cut, Susan survived to the end, but test screening audiences found her so unlikeable and were so incensed by her causing the central catastrophe that they felt she had to die.

One feedback card even bluntly urged the studio, "Kill the b*tch," and so they assembled a quick reshoot where Susan became shark chow, as was received far more favourably.
