Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness: 10 Reasons It Sucks
2. The terrible script
One of the many things that makes Doctor Strange 2 so monumentally unsatisfying is all the wasted potential. Sam Raimi's direction is terrific and the cast do an absolutely solid job, so had the film received a remotely adequate script this could've easily been a hit.
Sadly, the movie's screenplay is, to put it kindly, terrible.
A dreadful mish-mash of half-formed plot-lines, garbage comedy, set-ups with no pay-offs, pay-offs with no set-ups and tension free spectacle, Doctor Strange 2 is a film that never knows what to do with itself. There's no proper narrative through-line, no fully formed character arcs and for the most part, it doesn't even offer a very interesting exploration of the multiverse.
Additionally, although it was initially a relief to hear that the film would only be 2 hours, it actually should've been quite a bit longer. The pacing is incredibly rushed and the film's story really needed more time to breathe.
Thanks to the existence of Thor: The Dark World, Iron Man 2 and Eternals Doctor Strange 2 isn't quite the worst-written MCU film but alas, it does come tragically close .
