Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness: 10 Reasons It Sucks
3. Wanda Is Completely Ruined
As previously mentioned, the trailers gave too much away but there is one huge thing they kept secret: the main villain of the movie is actually Wanda Maximoff.
In Doctor Strange 2, Wanda slaughters her way through to America Chavez, hoping to kill her and steal her powers so that she can travel through the multiverse and live with the sons she created in Westview in WandaVision, who still exist in other realities.
Well, kudos for keeping this huge twist under wraps but otherwise? No. Just no. Frankly, this is almost as bad as Daenerys randomly becoming a villain in Game of Thrones.
There are so, so many problems with all of this. Firstly, it totally ruins Wanda's arc throughout WandaVision, which was her coming to terms with her losses, and also goes against everything we saw of her throughout the earlier MCU. She never once came off as a villain, not even in WandaVision necessarily even if she wasn't at her most sympathetic there.
Secondly, her motivation is poorly written and doesn't make much sense, meaning that whenever she is longing for her kids it comes off as petty and whiny. She should've understood that the children she knew in Westview weren't actually real and that any variants weren't actually her children.
Finally, the film insultingly attempts to redeem her at the end in spite of all the terrible things she's done. Let's hope Wanda leaves the MCU now, for there's no coming back from this.
