Edgar Wright: The Definitive Guide To Homages, Influences And References

Quentin Tarantinos ultraviolent Reservoir Dogs seems like an unlikely jumping-off point for a rom-zom-com, but Wright manages to cram in a homage to it anyway. The scene is in the Winchester after Barbara dies. David (being a tool), wants to kill her immediately before she turns, pointing the Winchester rifle at her. Shaun snaps, yelling stop pointing that gun at my mum! The scene is almost a direct lift from the tense Mexican stand-off between Joe Cabot, Nice Guy Eddie and Mr. White, where White attempts to vouch for the wounded Mr. Orange, who Joe wants killed because hes not 100% convinced of his innocence. After some terse back-and-forth, he yells stop pointing that f**king gun at my dad! Really, the only change between the scenes is an f-bomb and Penelope Wilton.
